Information
Did You Know?
From September 22nd, 2022 and on, your company, whether it's government-owned or private, whether it has only 1 or upwards of 5,000 employees, will have to comply with the new dispositions of the law 25, Loi modernisant des dispositions législatives en matière de protection des renseignement personnels!
From this date on, your company will have to:
Identify a Person Responsible for the Protection of Personal Information
This person is assumed to be the higher placed in the company hierarchy. If you decide to give this responsibility to someone else, you must identify them clearly on your company's website.
Have a Plan in Case of an Information Leak
You must have a response ready for confidentiality breaches, which are the unauthorized, unlawful access, use, communication, loss or violation of any kind regarding personal information.
Keep a Register of Confidentiality Incidents
You must be able to provide the details of any incident endangering the confidentiality of personal information possessed by your company.
Disclose any Confidentiality Incident to the Commission d'accès à l'information
In addition to all the persons potentially affected by the incident, you must also notify the CAI in case of a risk of serious prejudice in relation to the disclosure of their personal information.
Do you know where to start?
With Data Governance, of course!
What Is Data Governance?
Data Governance is the sum of all strategies to ensure that the data within your organisation is entered, circulated, and used in accordance with good practices within your industry, current rules and regulations, and your internal policies across all of your services.
Data governance covers all of these aspects:
Data Governance Rules and Policies
To know when your sensitive information is exposed, you first need to define the rules which dictate a) the sensitiveness of your data, b) the manners in which it should circulate, and c) what are the permissions of users within the company in relation to this data.
Systems to Follow Your Data to Detect Breaches Early
A good data governance framework allows you to know who uses which data, where they are stored, and how they are shared. This allows you to be notified as soon as the data is excessively exposed.
Building of Awareness and Education of Your Employees on Good Practices
Proper data governance starts first and foremost by users, because they are the one who gather, use and share your data! Making sure your employees have good awareness about how to share sensitive data securely will allow you to reduce confidentiality incidents from within your organisation.
DANSLENUAGE.QUEBEC Can Help!
Deep Data Analysis
We execute on your behalf a deep analysis of your data throughout your entire Microsoft 365 infrastructure, including information about who can access which data and how confidential this data is. Our analysis allows us to hierarchise exposure risks for your data depending on its sensitivity and the relevance of the risks for your organisation.
Risk Correction
Our report allows you to see exactly which elements should be adjusted (for example, sensitive public links, overexposed sensitive information, etc.) and we implement on your behalf the relevant fixes through adjusting user permissions and batch configuration changes.
Continuous Surveillance Service
This service will allow you to implement a surveillance system for your data governance with a comprehensive dashboard and monthly report. DANSLENUAGE.QUEBEC will be able to advise you on required policy changes and updates to keep your infrastructure secure at all times.
Optional: Enhancement With Data Labelling
Fortify your data governance by clearly and systematically labelling sensitive data stored by your organisation. Thus, you will know quickly if data is compromised and you will be able to act immediately.
Why Use Data Governance?
Of course, as a company, you need to comply with the law! But beyond this, good data governance has numerous advantages:
Protection of Your Data Against Industrial Espionage and Customer Theft
A data governance framework allows you to make sure that new users have a restricted access to your sensitive data and to configure alerts if some employees take risky actions.
Limit the Circulation of Your Confidential Documents
Avoid exposure of your confidential documents by controlling sharing policies and settings throughout and outside of your organization, for example by limiting accessibility from external users (link expiration, read-only sharing, etc.).
Enhance the Quality and Accessibility of Your Data
Data governance facilitates data hygiene by allowing you to set up revision policies, automated data cleaning, automated classification, etc. Those policies allow to keep an eye on the data, but they also allow to organise it more easily!
And What About Your Employees?
Terranova Takes Care of Them!
Having good data governance policies is a good place to start, but how will you ensure that you can maintain those policies in your day-to-day operations? The answer is simple: by training your employees!
Your employees are the main people tasked with the creation, storage, consultation, sharing and distributing of the data within your company. They must be aware of the rules in effect and the constraints regarding confidentiality of personal information, not only for security reasons, but also to ensure compliance with the law.
Our partner, Terranova, creates custom training plans to help your employees help you manage your data!
